Nepali Congress Chief Whip Emphasizes the Need for an Effective Parliament

Kathmandu: Ramesh Lekhak, the Chief Whip of the Nepali Congress, has emphasized the importance of ensuring the effectiveness of the parliament, particularly in addressing livelihood issues.

During a special session of the House of Representatives, Lekhak highlighted the significance of a robust parliament for the proper functioning of the government. He stressed that the parliament's main roles include lawmaking, government formation, resource allocation, and continuous monitoring of the government's performance.

Lekhak reaffirmed the Nepali Congress's commitment to safeguarding the constitution to promote an effective parliament envisioned by the constitution. He argued that achieving consensus, collaboration, and cooperation is essential for building a stronger democracy and more effective parliament.

He also acknowledged the importance of criticism and protest in a democratic system, asserting that they are essential components of the parliamentary process.

Additionally, Lekhak expressed his condolences for the tragic attack carried out by Hamas in Israel, which resulted in the death of 10 Nepali students and injuries to many others. He called on the government to create conditions for the safe return of Bipin Joshi, who is currently held by Hamas. Lekhak underscored the government's responsibility to address all the issues raised within the parliament effectively.
